We arrived in Montreal a few hours before the Coverts, so Keith and I walked to Deville Dinnerbar where we enjoyed a Hamburger with brie and roasted pear, onion rings with a ketchup/sriracha/maple syrup dipping sauce, and a fantastic glass of wine.
After a joyful reunion with the Coverts (and a bottle of Rancho Sisquoc wine that they brought all the way from California), we headed to Houston for dinner. We sat outside on the sidewalk and had an amazing meal of great food and even better friendship.
Sunday morning we walked to brunch at Les Enfants Terribles, a restaurant on the 44th floor with 360-degree views of Montreal.
Afterward, we hiked Mont Royal, first ascended (by a colonizer) in 1535 by Jacques Cartier. After climbing uphill steadily on streets, ramps, and hiking trails through McGill University, we began our final ascent of 530 steps to the top. The view was worth the journey.
After the strenuous climb, the girls went back to the hotel to chill while the adults went to Enoteca Monza Pizzeria Moderna for some sangria and bruschetta.
After refreshing and relaxing, we all went out to dinner at Firegrill where we all tried poutine for the first time — and had amazing steak and seafood entrees.
Monday morning we headed out in the rain for a food tour of Old Montreal and had an absolutely delightful time trying new foods in unique and inventive restaurants.
We ended the day with dinner at Modavie — a lovely, intimate restaurant with live music.
Today we strolled to a wonderful bookshop near the McGill campus called Paragraphe/Librarie/Bookstore. Then we had brunch at Universel Dejeuner et Grillade — which was quite wonderful, homey, and delicious. #BreakfastPoutine!
After brunch, we strolled up to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and enjoyed some exhibits before heading to the airport.
We are so very thankful that the Coverts included us in their vacation plans… and we can’t wait to do it again!
